Reviewed July 27, 2016 via mobile. This was our first time on a motor ferry. It was a pretty straightforward and easy travel onto the ferry from NY and then off into VT. The Plattsburgh to Burlington ferry was about a 20 minute ride. We parked and turned off our vehicle and then got out to check out the ferry.

You can take your car across if you're going somewhere beyond Port Kent.. The trip, a marvelous way to get to know Lake Champlain, takes about one hour each way.. The Burlington—Port Kent ferry doesn't run in winter, but ferries between Charlotte VT and Essex NY operate from mid-April through January 2, and those between Grand Isle VT and Plattsburgh NY operate year round, 24 hours a day.
